Energy International – Qatar and Supplier BLE Smoke & Fire Curtains provide a custom-designed solution for a one-of-a-kind hotel.

The JW Marriott Hotel Doha is a prestigious hotel under construction in the Diplomatic Area of West Bay in Doha, Qatar.

The tower has a distinctive vertical ellipse design divided visually into three sections with a tall, football-shaped center that seems to float between the upper and lower towers.

The 53-story tower will offer five 5-star restaurants including two sky restaurants on the 50th and 51st floors, a ballroom, nightclub, conference hall, spa, gym and fitness center and an executive business center on the mezzanine floor.

Guest accommodations include 112 standard room, 62 executive rooms, 75 double rooms, 42 suites, four VIP suites and two presidential suites.

The ground floor features lobbies, receptions areas, restaurants and retail shops and the three-level basement parking area can accommodate 488 vehicles.

The most striking feature of the hotel is the cantilevered swimming pool jutting out of the 33rd floor. The pool area includes a shallow water pool, children’s pool, fountain and an all glass main pool that allows guests an impressive view of the city skyline and a clear view down to the hotel entrance below.

Energy International Qatar is supplying BLE smoke curtains that will be installed around the hotel’s four atriums.

“The atriums have a fascinating design,” said Ziad Khaled, General Manager, Energy International Qatar. “They follow the outside line of the tower, starting small on lower floors, growing larger in the middle of the tower, then getting smaller again at the top of the tower.”

Khaled said that Energy Qatar has been working on the project from the very early stage when it was still an open tender.

“When the main contractor, Harinsa Qatar won the bid, we built a working relationship with them,” said Khaled. “I prepared all the technical documentation and submittals and met with the consultant to receive his approval on the submittal.”

Khaled delivered a presentation on Energy International and BLE to the owner’s representative, consultant and main contractor.

“The presentation was a major success,” said Khaled. “The owner representative was familiar with BLE products as we had supplied BLE curtains to the Gulf Mall, one of their earlier projects. He really liked the product and gave Energy International the order.”

The BLE smoke curtains will be custom-made for each floor based on the atrium dimensions.

“Each atrium has its own unique specifications” said Khaled. “BLE made all the shop drawings based on my site visits and comments. These drawings were approved by the project consultant and became the manufacturing drawings.”

The first shipment of smoke curtains was received in late June from BLE’s production facility in the United Kingdom.

Energy International Qatar is supervising the installation of the smoke curtains beginning with the atrium on level seven followed by the other three atriums.
